The Church affirmed that the word of God, the old and the New Testament, were inspired be the Holy Spirit. Readers share in the tradition of proclaiming the word to the community.

Readers proclaim the word of God by reading the first and second readings, and also the Psalms if they are not sung. Preparation involves working on the technique of presentation, but also working on our own hearts, so that the things that we proclaim might be proclaimed with a profound faith.

The first step involves reading and rereading the text out loud to see how the text sounds, and check for any difficult words or phrases. Secondly, dress appropriately so as to draw attention to the word and not to yourself. Allow God's word to speak to you, and then those listening will also be affected by the word.

Finally, arrive in Church early so you can pray to the spirit to guide you in your ministry that day.
